This course provides learners with a basic understanding of the health hazards associated with mercury exposure as well as prevention and post-spill procedures. This course is intended for a broad spectrum of workers who may be exposed to contact with Mercury.

Mercury poisoning can happen due to direct or environmental exposure and may come from one or more of the following sources:

  • Seafood
  • Dental Fillings
  • Mining for gold
  • Exposure to some types of jewelry
  • Exposure to older paints
  • Some vaccinations
  • Contact with a broken thermometer or older house thermometer
  • Toxic air in areas near factories that produce mercury as a by-product, such as coal plants
