SECTION 1 | ASBESTOS EXPLAINED
In this first unit, we explain what exactly asbestos is, its nature and properties.
SECTION 2 | ASBESTOS AND ITS EFFECT ON HEALTH
This next unit explains the effects that asbestos can have on your health and the health of those working around you. Highlighting the most common asbestos-related illnesses.
SECTION 3 | ASBESTOS CONTAINING MATERIALS (ACMS)
The focus of module four is ACMs. ACMs are asbestos containing materials. Knowing where ACMs are most likely to be found will help you avoid asbestos.
SECTION 4 | SAFE SYSTEMS OF WORK
Next, we explain the systems required to keep yourself and colleagues safe. These are the Asbestos Survey, Risk Assessments, the Asbestos Register and Emergency Procedures.
SECTION 5 | LEGAL RESPONSIBILITIES
In this final unit we highlight employee and employer legal duties under the various safety regulations.

Who should take Cat A asbestos training?
CAT-A Asbestos Awareness training is required under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 for anyone who may come into contact with asbestos-containing materials (ACMs ) but do not perform any work that would intentionally disturb asbestos.
This training is essential for a wide range of professionals to ensure their safety and to prevent accidental asbestos exposure.
This includes construction workers, tradespeople, building managers. Maintenance workers, Electricians and Plumbers, HVAC Technicians, Demolition Workers, Roofing Contractors, Environmental Inspectors, Waste and Recycling Workers, Firefighters.
Why is asbestos dangerous?
Asbestos is friable so if it is disturbed microscopic asbestos fibres are released into the air that can then be easily inhaled into our lungs. Once fibres are in our lungs they remain and over time, diseases can develop.
Even a small level of asbestos exposure increases the chance of developing an asbestos-related disease.
What are the levels of asbestos training?
There are three levels of asbestos training defined by the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. These are:
- Asbestos awareness (Category A)
- Non-licensable work with asbestos (Category B)
- Licensable work with asbestos (Category C)
Category A or CAT A Asbestos courses, like this one are for staff who are liable to be exposed to asbestos in the course of their work. These staff are required to avoid any work that may disturb asbestos containing materials (ACMs).
Category B or CAT B asbestos courses are for staff who knowingly disturb asbestos.
Category C or CAT C asbestos course are for staff who remove asbestos.
