Every year, thousands of workers are made ill by hazardous substances, contracting lung disease such as asthma, cancer and skin disease such as dermatitis. You are probably aware of hazardous substances that are used in your workplace. Or are created as a consequence of work activities for example welding fumes or quarry dust.
COSHH Regulations require employers to assess the risk to their employees, and to prevent or adequately control those risks. As part of a range of measures to prevent risks this online COSHH course provides staff with the knowledge needed to recognise hazards and behave appropriately to keep themselves and colleagues safe.
This online COSHH course is designed for the construction sector where for example prolonged contact with wet cement in construction can lead to chemical burns and/or dermatitis.

What are Hazardous Substances?
Any substance that can harm humans. Hazards substances can take many forms; Such as chemicals,fumes, dusts, vapours, mists, nanotechnology, gases, biological agents and germs.
This is COSHH?
COSHH stands for ‘Control of Substances Hazardous to Health’. The right controls depend on the risks identified but could include for example; supervision, training, new procedures, specialist ventilation equipment, substituting substances.
Do COSHH regulations cover asbestos?
No Asbestos has its own regulations. As do lead and radioactive substances.
Do you need to train contractors?
Yes you must train on site contractors to know what the risks are and how you are controlling them. Employers must also know if contractors are bringing hazardous substances onto your premises and how they will prevent harm to your employees.
